Emerging Church Network

John Berryhill

Executive Director and Consultant

John Berryhill received a BA in Sociology in 1986 and later a Master of Divinity with Biblical Languages while at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. John and Shelly, his wife of 15 years, served seven years in youth ministries in the San Antonio area and in Houston where they would go on to plant Harbor Church with a vision to reach emerging cultures. John mentored a number of young, emerging pastors while serving in the Houston area and worked to form a learning community to train lay church planters while working as a consultant for Union Baptist Association. Harbor Church continues to operate as a network of house churches working to make disciples among the diverse cultures of the Montrose area. John led a city reaching initiative in Austin, which later developed into a leadership foundation, ABBA, drawing together pastors and business leaders for joint ministry efforts in the Austin area. John also gave leadership to the development of Emerging Church Network (ECN) which, with the support of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, works to stimulate church planting movements among unreached people groups in major urban areas. ECN has a staff of ten, including seven cultural strategists who work to plant churches among particular cultures and three directors who help develop leaders and strategies alongside local Southern Baptist associations. John and Shelly now live in Austin, TX where they home school their four children.
